The 2008 Sweet Corn Festival
Corn Stalk Creation Contest
Our Corn Stalk Creation Contest is one of the most popular events at our annual Sweet Corn Festival. Families work together, using corn stalks to create an imaginative sculpture. In 2008 families built a Statue of Liberty replica, a giraffe, fireplace, scarecrow, hammock swing with a bird's nest and much more. Judging this competition is never easy, but Grand Prizes are awarded for Best of Show, Tallest & Most Creative.

Sweet Corn Eating Competition
Who knew eating sweet corn could be so fun and so competitive! The crowds go wild over this fast paced competition. Whoever eats one ear of corn the fastest is declared the winner! And don't be fooled – this wasn't just for kids; we had lots of adults take on the challenge.

Corn Shelling Competition
On your mark, get set, go! Fingers were racing and corn kernels were flying as our participants competed to be the first person with corn cob free of kernels.
|
Corn Husking Competition
This is a favorite competition for the young'ens in the crowd. Pulling off those husks is trickier than you think! But cheering parents & siblings made sure everyone felt like a winner!

Corny Foods
Cherry Crest served up all kind of corny treats for this event. Every guest got a free ear of freshly roasted sweet corn. We also had fried sweet corn and corn fritters – yum! We even invited Paradise Fire Company to come sell their famous chicken corn soup & homemade corn muffins.
